Research interest: My research focuses on the nature of voluntary action. In particular, I have focussed on the brain activity that precedes voluntary actions, contrasting this with the brain activity for the sensory triggering of actions. What is the relation, if any, between such precursor brain activity and our conscious experience of deciding, or wanting, or intending to move? I have also worked on a range of topics around the penumbra of volition. How and why do we experience a sense of agency over external events that we control through our voluntary actions? What is the relation between volition, agency and responsibility?
